Heartless
The man of metal gleams
in dappled forest sunlight.
Eyes opened in a slant
watch the birds mate.
Pairs of robins gather twigs
red feathers soften nests,
coupled together easily.
The man reflects on broken hope.
Once, his ax, bewitched, chopped arm,
severed from body his leg.
Replacing limbs with tin,
self-destroyed in silent glen.
Rather than allow him love,
a witch sought to curse.
Alone with memory
he weeps rust.

One of my nature poems, as usual with a magical element. The Tin Man's thoughts before he is found in the woods, ruminations on nature with lost love thrown in.
